Lauren McColm / Fine Art Painting BA(Hons)

My practice continues to be rooted in the physicality of abstract expressionism. This is defined by gestural brushstrokes, vibrant bursts of colour suffused with humour and spray-painted compositions while maintaining their mindfully balanced components in an alluring visual expression. A space of both ideas and feelings embedded with an emotional response. My brushstrokes are swift yet childlike which keeps a fresh approach towards the paintings. The different kinds of possibilities that surface from making mistakes has become an interesting notion that I have been applying to my practice. I enjoy the moments when i get surprised by my mistakes, it has become important for my working process.
