IN PRAISE OF SHADOWS
A collection of woven fabrics that celebrate the beauty of light and shadow. My final collection is inspired by the words of the Japanese author Tanizaki; “- we find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, that one thing against another creates”.
Aiming for a simple and timeless aesthetic with a neutral palette, my focus has been on creating shadows and movement within textures and three dimensional structures, such as pleats, seersucker, and through cram and space warps in order to achieve different weights and transparency within one fabric. As fashion fabrics they are designed to be seasonless, inspiring a slow, natural, delicate and considered style.
“where it not for shadows, there would be no beauty.” – Tanizaki
