Jayx Kennedy / Graphic Design BA(Hons)

As a designer I strive to understand the world through Graphic Design. My practise centres on exploring sensitive issues with respect and compassion, and these pieces attempt to give a voice to the humans who have been transformed into statistics. The work presented shows my attempts to make the topic of migration more accessible for viewers to understand, as only through knowing something do you have the ability to change it. The poster pieces try to bridge the gap between coherent information and design as art, by allowing the viewer the ability to decide how they want to view it. The maps and statistics exist on a removable acetate layer to facilitate this. The video piece tells a narrative through data points which ultimately reveal a sombre image, in an attempt to connect the detached statistics of migrant mortalities with the emotional reality of what this means for many humans.
