Leah Blake / Fine Art Printmaking BA(Hons)

My practice centres around the ubiquitous material of urban and terrestrial landscapes, and the everyday and textual narratives of conscious thinking. I form material explorations into tensions between paradoxes of the organic and man-made, industrial and terrestrial, analogue and digital, delicacy and durability. Poetry and prose are an enduring force underpinning my practice. Through language I explore the conscious mind, presenting a report of bubbling societal frustration. I work through a continued cathartic process of collection which engages ambiguously with contemporary ideas of the Archive. This scavenging process creeps into my image making process, using the analogue still-frame; a sustained, slow process of trawling through video frames. Printed work is embodied through digital and screen-printed images of these overlooked frames, printed onto delicate papers, found surfaces and hand-bound artist books. These varying forms of collection find final forms in poetic, unfixed assemblages that remain in a constant state of reimagination.
