Architecture is something we experience. It’s a way that we can reflect our identity. I have always enjoyed observing buildings and it has been a constant subject for me to draw from. Drawing is an integral part in my designing process. This created a force to my work in using drawing and architecture.
This year’s work focuses on the social housing building, Alexander Road Estate. Alexandra Road uses a brutalist concrete mass to frame individual flats/homes around a central winding pedestrian road. The concrete is broken down into steps, entrance platforms, projecting fine walls that separate the flats. These elements are referenced to the human need and scale. These views are captured in my of drawings which are central to my current designs. I have designed 3 objects using a combination of metal and ceramic that respond to these drawings of Alexandra Road.
