Eleni Pavlopoulou / Fine Art Printmaking BA(Hons)

My practice centralises around the concept of the Female Grotesque and the Beautiful Grotesque. I move between print, drawing and sculpture across all my figures, bodies and portraits; weaving an unspoken narrative.
My work stems from witchcraft, myths, fairy tales and the representation of the female within it. The Beautiful Grotesque relates to the appealing aesthetic of my figures yet the dark undertone of nightmarish beings people leave in their imagination. My figures play with the idea that the word beautiful is tied to the female. The shapely, naked and exposed bodies I create questions the male gazer. Yet, their lack of attributes that society deems feminine such as their hairlessness, androgynous faces and over enlarged hands and feet, confuses this concept.
