In essence, ‘Super Subsystem’ is a collection inspired by 80’s and 90’s technology, incorporating: advertisements, typography, graphics, the office environment and the texture and pattern of the exterior/interior of computers and telephones.
This collection was inspired by Nan June Paik, depicting a creative twist on technology and composition in combination with the ‘Dead Web’ exhibition for its use of movement, distortion and graphic glitch qualities. I used pigment screen printing on cottons, linens and wool, alongside digital printing in my project to create a 2020 Menswear collection for the boutique market.
Through immersing myself in 80’s culture, adverts, tv shows and the Byte magazine, I have created a current menswear textiles collection that reflects a period in history that mirrors an exciting and inventive time in the world of technology. Ultimately, this collection reflects my interests as a designer: creating graphic prints, exploring texture, composition, layering and bold colours.
