Nature is wild and is perceived as ‘uncontrollable’. Therefore, my project explores and frames the beauty of nature into formal patterns. Classical, sharp and symmetrical forms were explored with fine, clean lines to create beautiful designs for the high-end fashion market. The project inspiration also comes from noble gardens found in different cultures and researching visual elements that can be used to create new patterns. The project is strengthened with an analytical look at artists such as Barron and Larcher, Ethal Mairet, William Morris, and other traditional craftsmen who used natural dyes in their practice. They have inspired me to adopt old techniques such as Batik, echo dyeing and painting on fabric alongside screen-printing techniques.Printing is also enhanced by traditional Haute Couture embroidery using tambour hook as well as modern machine embroidery. Fabric manipulation with pleats and laser cutting adds a contemporary dimension to the final collection.
