Samuel Jarman / Fashion Communication with Business Studies BA (Hons)

I am Samuel Jarman, my work looks at how our identity is formed by our heritage, culture and the everyday objects that we surround ourselves with. A lot of my work is inspired by art, history and religion, and how these affect our everyday lives, how we dress and the actions we take each day. I have always been inspired by my British and Turkish Cypriot heritage, the relationship between the two cultures and how that influences my life. In my project I have looked at how food is used to share celebrations and evoke memories of family events, alongside the objects passed down through generations and the stories these tell. For this project I mainly used self portrait photography to document my journey of uncovering and understanding my identity, using my bedroom and objects within this space, collected on travels and passed down from my family throughout my life.
