Photography BA(Hons)

Photography BA(Hons)

Welcome!

Our graduating students on the Photography BA(Hons) course are image makers in their chosen photographic specialisms of both analogue and digital techniques. Their works exist as prints, installations, photobooks, digital images on screens, analogue projections, and writing. The photographic works exhibited in this online show are the result of extensive research in both practice and theory, undertaken during their three years on this degree. In these practices the photograph is used as a tool to explore current concerns, with roots in the autobiographical, questions of the document and the archive, contemporary feminist concerns, the relationship between the darkroom and digital technologies, amongst other interest areas.

Photographic materialities and techniques are often located at the forefront of these investigations. The processes underpinning the works showcased here have therefore been impacted by the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 lockdown. Studios, darkrooms and digital suites had to be evacuated overnight. Productions were put to an abrupt halt as photographic shoots were cancelled or relocated to domestic or online spaces. This show demonstrates innovative and playful creativity, thinking and making. We reveal digital representations of the actual works, a glimpse of future potentials for physical photographic presentations.

The Photography BA(Hons) staff team are immensely proud of our 2020’s graduating students and wish them every success in their future careers.
