Mia Thorpe / Fashion Design with Business Studies BA(Hons)

My final collection, titled ‘Checked into the 40’s’, was originally inspired by my great grandma and the life she lived. This took me on a path to exploring both pre and post the Second World War, looking at life in her home town, Sheffield during this time, where I went on to primarily look at detail placement, shape and silhoutte of the time.
Experimental 3D stand work played a big role in the development and designing of my collection, bringing in creative button placement, along with the idea and initiative of Make Do and Mend.
From the beginning of my final collection, I knew that I wanted to incorporate dogtooth fabrics into my designs as this was something I was drawn to, bringing a more modern feel to the garments through the colours that were selected and the way the dogtooth was printed.
