“Raw Modernism” – A project which explores Brazilian design influences and the modernist movement of the 20th century. A synthesis of two worlds; the raw, natural and native with the modern, contemporary and manmade. Celebrating Brazil’s heterogenous identity and multiplicity: inspired by the relationship between craft and modernism whereby raw, fibrous and imperfect qualities are contrasted to shiny textures and surfaces. The collection explores Brazilian modernism, through the exploration of three main areas of focus: raw material, the modernist curve in modernist design and translucency of material demonstrating sensitivity to natural surroundings. My designs are suitable for the production of handmade sustainable luxury bags; aimed at a niche market with a focus on sustainability. Raw Modernism is a celebration of Brazilian culture and design; using local raw materials to create hand-made luxury bags with a timeless yet modern aesthetic.
