Jack Idiens: unGround – Interactive Sound Installation
unGround focuses on heightening the communal aspect within the club experience. This explores not only the interplay between human and environment, but humans’ interaction with one another. Designed for a tranquil space, unGround draws curious club goers to its intriguing kinetic instruments. Sounds taken from urban landscapes are played, drawing parallels between the club experience and the environment surrounding the UK’s diverse and prosperous music scene. Accelerometers built into the instrument track its movements and convert these into raw data. In turn, the soundscape responds and evolves through manipulation of this data utilizing Max MSP, Arduino and Ableton Live. The result is a serene experience that contrasts the often fast-paced experience within a club.
