Hector Lewis / Fine Art Painting BA(Hons)

My work is concerned with storytelling particularly through the paradox of doing nothing. I look at comic absurd human idiosyncrasies through experimental print making and absurd short stories or poems. The process is something I engaged with due to my lockdown circumstances and hence they focus on interior scenes of blankets, pillows, curtains which represent comfort yet conversely stasis. Like curtains closed in the day or at night. In the night they represent comfort and safety whereas in the day suggest hiding and meloncholy. Therefore I am interested in antithesis and how context blurs these lines. How objects, verbs, place, feelings, emotions change the perspective and context of doing ‘Nothing’.
