Francesca Scot-Sills / Fine Art Critical Practice BA(Hons)

“The world is filled to suffocating.”* Sherrie Levine’s artist statement informs my practice with the notion of suffocation in overconsumption of new material. The theme of materiality and where physical matter of work comes from is integral to my practice. I use found objects and found imagery with a deconstructionist approach in my work. By ‘deconstruction’ I mean taking apart and putting together again. Dissimilar to destroying, deconstructing can be seen as a form of reusing / recycling. I strive to reconstruct. First experimenting with found physical objects I have now turned to deconstructing current events with photography. During the height of the Pandemic I took pictures of houses in my local community which had displayed signs of appreciation for the NHS and key workers in their windows. I then created a collage of these displays and spread them back out into my community.
