My aim for this project was to promote sustainable shopping to a younger audience. I started this project by looking in charity shops at the weird and wonderful items on offer and the history these items carry. One object that I became inspired by was a fleece from a mysterious 90s skateboard brand ‘Bitch Skateboards’. During my research into this brand, I watched the documentary ‘The Man Who Souled the World’, which told the story of Steve Rocco- the found of Bitch Skateboards and how his anti-establishment attitude reshaped the skate industry. I became inspired by skateboard deck designs, particularly those that made a political statement. For my final outcome I ended up creating a series of skateboards that promote sustainability. This creates the opportunity for visible activism. I wanted to use two recognizable figures that represent the two sides of the climate change argument I also made. supporting a mini zine in the style of a 90s skate magazine to tie all elements of my project together.
