Emily Hallows / Design for Digital Media BA(Hons)

Hi there! I’m Emily Hallows, a graduate in Design for Digital Media. I focus heavily on illustration and graphic design, focused on book publishing and children’s illustrations. I’ve created my illustrations in order to showcase my passions as well as providing stories for children and visualisations for current environmental exhibitions such as the System Hive collective at ONCA art exhibit. I particularly love bright but soft colour schemes and my current work is a smooth interpretation on current vector styles. My favourite illustrations stem from challenges within social media as well as within the projects I’m working on. In addition to this, I use my graphic design abilities to work around my illustrations by producing mock-ups, introducing typography pieces within them or creating layout designs in order to make my pieces legible and eye-catching. I love combining the two, enabling me to visualise a message and to create clean and solid digital pieces. If I was to categorise myself, I would state I am a graphic designer with a passion for illustration.

My recent work has been the creation of a children’s book franchise: Tia’s adventures. Within this I have developed a fully realised children’s storybook aimed at 3 – 7-year-olds, ‘Tia and her telescope’. Teaching them about girls in science, appreciating nature, and showing how creative space can be! In addition to this piece, I created mock-ups of other stories within the franchise such as ‘Tia and her goggles’ and ‘Tia and her magnifying glass’ showcasing a variety of adventures on land and sea and even in space! The books also come with additional sticker sets where children can take their imagination outside the book and Tia can be stuck anywhere! Within this project I also dove into publishing and marketing this franchise, creating a website aimed for parents and carers as well as teachers within key stage 1. This website involves a buy now page, a parent and carers page, a teacher page, and an activities page where children are able to download activities related to the book for additional enjoyment.

In addition to my children’s book franchise, I have also idealised the newly realised version of Animal Crossing and my obsession has found its way into my illustrations. Within this I have created a digital and printable checklist for any age to enjoy. This enables you to make sure you’re getting the most out of your gameplay and are optimising your experience. In addition to this, for beginners to the game, I have made a beginners tips and tricks guide in order for them to also make the most out of the game and with this allowing the community to come together and share their knowledge. I also wouldn’t be able to finish the project without a cute personalised painting for my customer and a sticker set as well!
