Amy Spencer / Illustration BA(Hons)

During my time as an Illustration student, I have experimented with many forms of image making and how to communicate my personal interests visually. I came to the university as a Textile Artist and I am leaving as a Mixed Media Illustrator. My final projects for Level Six ranged from a children’s book about a message in a bottle, travelling through the world’s oceans whilst the historical events of the 20th and 21st centuries are taking place around it, illustrated using gouache paint. To photography collages, inspired by the imagery from the 1920’s of people dressed up as giant butterflies or perched on giant illustrated moons. I created modernised versions of these by using my own illustrations and by having my own vintage style photo shoot. For my final project I hand embroidered a storytelling cushion about the aviator, Amelia Earhart, one of the most significant figures in women’s history.
